Dogs recovering after poisoning

(Update)
The Hamilton-Burlington SPCA says a group of dogs is recovering after being poisoned.
Animal control officers picked up seven puppies in Caledonia last Wednesday that had been baited and poisoned.
The border collie mix puppies were falling over and had elevated respiratory rates. They were stabilized, and then brought to the Hamilton-Burlington SPCA on Friday. But sadly, two of them didn’t survive.
The remaining seven-month old dogs — Ginny, Fletcher, Bellatrix, Trinity and Poppy — are undergoing treatment. The next step is to test their organ function. We just spoke to Becky Collins from the HBSPCA, and the good news is the puppies are making progress: “They do love people. Every time you see them, they’re wagging their tails at you. They want to be petted, they want to be cuddled. They just seem to be a little afraid of the new surroundings. For example, if you put a leash on them, they fall to the ground and they just stop. So they’ve definitely never been walked on a leash before. So that’s gonna be something that the new adoptors are gonna have to work with them.”
The dogs will remain in the SPCA’s custody for seven to ten days, before going up for adoption. You can follow the puppies’ progress — and perhaps make a donation to sponsor their recovery on their website, or find them on Facebook.
