Dog attack in Hamilton sends 7-year-old to hospital

A little girl on her way to school this morning was bitten by a dog, possibly several, while her caregiver and a neighbour tried to help.

Hamilton police were called and helped get her safely to the hospital. Some neighbours say this is not the first time these same dogs have attacked.

Witnesses who saw the 7-year-old girl get bit by several dogs say they are upset but not surprised.

One neighbour shared a video with CHCH News of the girl getting attacked at around 8 a.m.

According to Hamilton police, she was walking along Kenilworth Avenue with her caregiver and the dogs came running out from the yard as they were passing by.

The girl’s caregiver tried to protect her from the dogs but was unable to stop her from being hurt. The 7-year-old was bit on the head, arm and leg.

Patrick McCloud is the neighbour across the street from the house where the four dogs live. Not only did he try to help, he says he has also been attacked by these same dogs.

Witnesses say these same dogs are often in the streets without a leash, intimidating people passing by.

Rosalyn Allen says they are tired of complaining and the attack on the little girl could have been prevented if their complaints were taken seriously. She says her boyfriend saw her neighbour get attacked and they filed a complaint.

CHCH News reached out to animal services and the City of Hamilton responded with this statement, “this is an active Hamilton Services Investigation and information is still being gathered and confirmed.”
