Divers search Welland river for BMW

Niagara Regional Police divers searched the Welland River Friday after witnesses say they saw a black BMW sinking in Chippawa Creek just after 10 Thursday night.

Around 2am, divers were able to find the vehicle about 500 meters downstream from where it went into the water. Police say the car was stolen from the Halton region. They were concerned there may have been people trapped inside, but the search found that the car was empty. Police say crews will likely remove the vehicle in the fall when they clean up other debris from the river.
