Detectives looking to identify three men in relation to assault in Welland

Niagara police are looking to identify three people in relation to an assault in Welland. 

Investigators say at around 4:10 a.m. on Dec. 9, a man in his twenties was walking in the area of the Pen Financial building located in the area of East Main Street and Burger Street, in Welland. 

Police say the man was approached by a man, also in his twenties, who spoke briefly with him and then attacked him without any provocation. The attacker was joined by two additional men and all three began punching and kicking the victim. 

Investigators say the three attackers left the man on the sidewalk suffering serious injuries, then returned again and began kicking and punching him more. 

Police say the three men are believed to have left the area in a dark SUV. The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and is in stable condition. 

Detectives say they are looking to release photos of the suspects in an updated release.
