Deputy Prime Minister announces more new home builds

Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister is doubling down on Ottawa’s plan to tackle the housing crisis. During a visit in Grimsby with a construction union, LIUNA, Chrystia Freeland says houses will be built in a time of high inflation and cost of living.

Freeland acknowledged the price of food and gas are hitting Canadians hard but the top of mind when it comes to affordability is construction. “The key is, we need to build more homes and we’re going to do it,” Freeland said.

During a visit with LIUNA officials at the Mancinelli Training Centre in Grimsby this afternoon Freeland also met with construction workers.

Ottawa’s housing budget plan to double home building appears to still be on the table.

Inflation has skyrocketed and home prices continue to drop.

The Bank of Canada is anticipated to hike interest rates again next week meaning higher mortgages and stress tests for bank approvals.
