At least five people have been killed in a fire at a seniors’ home in Quebec.

It happened in “L’isle-verte” a small town about a two-hour drive Northeast of Quebec City. In addition to the deaths, officials say as many as 30 people are still unaccounted for. Many who lived in the home were over 85 years old and all but a handfull had limited mobility. Many were confined to wheelchairs and walkers. Firefighters doused the building with water leaving it covered in sheets of ice and thick icicles once the fire was out. The residence was only partially fitted with a sprinkler system but did have a fire alarm.
