Dead man discovered in swimming pool

A man was found dead in a backyard pool in Port Dalhousie Friday morning.

The victim is identified as Hans Pietsch, 79, of St Catharines. A family member found him at the bottom of the pool just after 11:00 am.

He was going out to do some work in the backyard when the accident happened.

A Niagara Regional Police officer jumped into the pool in an effort to save Pietsch but he was unresponsive.
