Day the music died at Opera Hamilton

The curtain has closed on Opera Hamilton.
The arts group has cancelled its yearly gala Popera, set for Saturday night, along with its production of Carmen in April.
Opera Hamilton’s board co-chair and treasurer, Peter Uffelmann, says they simply didn’t have the resources to continue. He says the board had no choice but to cancel the rest of the season and cease operations.
Opera Hamilton received almost $127,000 from the city last year, a $40,000 grant from BMO and funding from other agencies. Opera Hamilton’s predecessor, Opera Ontario, went bankrupt in 2008.
