David Onley, former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, dead at 72

Former Lieutenant Governor David Onley, who emerged as a champion of disability rights both during and after his time in the role, has died.
David Onley was a journalist in Canada’s biggest media market contracting polio as a child, and needing a mobility device to get around.
Onley was appointed as Lieutenant Governor in 2007, the provinces first Lieutenant Governor with a disability.
David Onley served as Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor until 2014, but completed an independent review of Ontario’s Accessibility law in 2019.
David was a tremendous advocate for people with challenges and advocated for people who didn’t have a voice themselves
