David McGuinty eyes federal Liberal leadership as Liberal convention continues

Liberals are gathering in Ottawa this weekend, in hopes of rebuilding the crippled federal party.

Michael Ignatieff is among the roughly 3,000 party members attending the three-day convention.

They are debating proposals aimed at ensuring the party’s long-term survival.

Ignatieff resigned as leader following last spring’s devastating defeat, but he’s predicting better days ahead.

Meanwhile, Ontario’s Liberal Premier Dalton McGuinty says it will take patience and teamwork to bring the party back to its former glory days.

The future of the Liberal Party could include another McGuinty taking the reins, if the Ontario premier’s younger brother has anything to do with it.

Ottawa South MP David McGuinty told reporters today he is seriously considering a run at the federal Liberal leadership.
