Date set for Kachkar hearing

The preliminary hearing for the man accused of running down a Toronto police officer with a stolen snowplow truck will begin November 7th.

44 year old Richard Kachkar of St. Catharines appeared in court Wednesday via video link.

He is charged with first degree murder in the death of Sgt. Ryan Russell.

Kachkar was shot before being arrested January 12th, the same day Sgt. Russell was struck and killed while trying to stop the plow.

Kachkar is also charged with two counts of attempted murder related to another Toronto police officer and a taxi driver.

The preliminary hearing is expected to last until December 2nd.
