More cyclists in Hamilton

Hamilton’s cycling committee says the number of residents using bicycles to get around the city is on the rise.

The group says the number of cyclists in Hamilton climbed 63% from 2001 to 2006. The city is still waiting on more recent numbers from the University of Toronto’s Transportation Tomorrow Survey. But the cycling committee says it expects they will be even higher. The increase has corresponded with more tax dollars and energy invested in making the city bicycle friendly. For example, 70 more kilometers of bike lanes were created between 2008 and this year.
