A 60-year-old cyclist has died after they were struck by a car that crossed onto the paved shoulder of Highway 7.

The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on March 3.

Authorities say they had to close part of the highway between 4th Line and 5th Line.

According to the report released by police on Monday, the driver of the SUV was travelling eastbound — the same direction as the cyclist — when they entered the paved shoulder and struck the man on his bicycle.

The 60-year-old cyclist from Georgetown was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say that the driver, a 60-year-old from Acton and his two passengers weren’t injured during the “two-vehicle collision.”

Authorities are looking to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, and say they can be reached by calling 905-858-8670.
