Cyclist dead in Hamilton Collision

One cyclist is dead and another is fighting for his life after they were hit by a car on Highway 5, north of Hamilton on Sunday. The two men were hit from behind and CHCH News has learned both men were migrant workers in their 40’s and 50’s. Migrant workers are commonly hired by farms in the Hamilton and Niagara region.

While it’s unclear which of the numerous farms in the area the victim worked at it’s understood that every Sunday groups of migrant workers would make their way to the Antique plaza just meters away from the crash site.

People living in the area say they routinely see workers bike along the gravel lane adjacent to the paved highway that looks to be wide enough to feel safe, which leaves many scratching their heads over this loss.

The name of the deceased has not been released.
