The body of the man from Caledon who drowned in Lake Erie at Crystal Beach was recovered Friday morning. The man fell out of an inflatable raft on Thursday and never surfaced. He was not wearing a life-jacket. Police say the man’s body was found in the water about 50 metres from the south end of the jetty. He was in about 2.5 metres of water.

A diver from the Niagara Regional Police Underwater Search and Recovery Unit found the man and brought him to shore. The search team started their hunt around five on Thursday evening, but had to suspend it overnight. The search resumed at first light on Friday and the discovery was made around 11am.

Many local fishermen agree that the water was rough and choppy on Thursday and that those with experience stayed out. But for this man and his friends, they decided to chance it. The three others in the boat are all safe and accounted for.
