Firefighters in St. Catharines reportedly had to rescue several people from the second floor of a building after it went up in flames Friday afternoon.

St. Catharines Fire Chief Dave Upper said fire crews were on their way back from another call when they discovered the fire located at 3 King St.

Reports say there were people trapped on the second floor who needed to be rescued before crews could start fighting the fire.

St. Catharines Fire said they are working with local agencies to help anyone displaced by the fire find a place to stay (Image submitted by viewer).

No one was seriously injured and there was no one taken to hospital, but the fire spread to the neighbouring address, 1 King St.

According to Chief Upper, neither of the buildings are inhabitable, with 3 King being described as a “rooming house” and 1 King has apartments on the top floor.

The Office of the Fire Marshall has been notified and there is no indication yet of how the fire started.
