Crews battle early morning house fire on Hamilton Mountain

Hamilton firefighters used a “defensive attack” to put out an early morning fire at a home on Hamilton Mountain.

Emergency crews were called to a house on West 5th St. around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

“Crews arrived on scene and found the house fully involved. They had flames extending out all four sides,” said Dave Cramm, Hamilton Fire District Chief. “No one entered the house because we had such heavy fire involvement. All attack crews were hitting the house from outside.”

In a video shot by the neighbour who called 911, flames and smoke can be seen billowing out the roof of the home.

The home was recently purchased and was undergoing renovations at the time of the blaze.

Firefighters managed to quickly get the fire under control.

Crews opened up a portion of the roof to gain access to the attic where there were still several hot spots.

No one was home at the time and no injuries have been reported.

A neighbouring home sustained some damage from the flames.

West 5th was closed between Tyrone Dr. and Limeridge Rd. West but has since reopened.
