CPP disputes math behind Alberta’s bid to withdraw from national pension fund

Alberta’s premier is getting the ball rolling on a provincewide consultation on whether to quit the Canada pension plan.

Her government has released a third-party report that estimates the province deserves more than half of the CPP’s assets.

Danielle Smith is asking for more than $334 billion – about 53% of CPP assets that all Canadians across the country have been contributing to.

A withdrawal of that size could mean the rest of Canada ends up paying more.
