A two-month long COVID-19 outbreak at a long-term care home in Niagara Falls has been declared over.

Niagara Public Heath declared an outbreak at Millennium Trail Manor on Sept. 29.

Since then 32 positive cases of COVID-19 were confirmed. Half of those cases were residents and the other half were staff members. Three residents died.

About a month into the outbreak, Ontario’s Ministry of Long-Term Care ordered Niagara Health to takeover management of the home for 90 days.

The outbreak was declared over on Saturday Nov. 28, after reporting no active cases and no new cases for 14 days.

“Bringing an end to the outbreak reflects the collective hard work, vigilance and commitment of everyone connected to Millennium Trail Manor,” said Lynn Guerriero, President of Niagara Health, which continues to manage the home.

“We’re confident we’re putting the necessary plans, resources and practices in place to assist with returning the home to normal operations and creating a safe and healthy environment for residents and staff long into the future.”

In-person visiting restrictions remain in place at the home.

Niagara Region is currently in the orange “restrict” level of COVID-19 restrictions, which permits only essential caregivers at long-term care homes.
