The Toronto police officer charged in a deadly shooting on a TTC streetcar is in court.
Pre-trial motions are being made in his case today. Constable James Forcillo is charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder in the 2013 death of Sammy Yatim, 18.
Forcillo has pleaded not guilty.
Yatim was shot and killed in an incident captured on surveillance and cellphone video. On that video, nine shots can be heard following shouted commands to drop a knife.
Forcillo, who has been free on bail, has been working at Toronto Crime Stoppers in an administrative role. Forcillo’s lawyer has said he’s eager to tell his side of the story.
CHCH’s Phil Perkins is covering the case; he’ll have a full report tonight on the Evening News at 6.
