Court acquits mom who admitted killing stepchild based on faulty forensics

A Brampton woman who pleaded guilty to killing her stepdaughter 25 years ago, has been exonerated by Ontario’s top court.

Moments after she was formally acquitted, Maria Shepherd said she forgave Dr. Charles Smith.  He’s the disgraced forensic pathologist whose evidence prompted her to plead guilty to killing her three-year-old stepdaughter in 1991.
