County of Brant issues temporary outdoor water ban

The County of Brant has issued a temporary ban on outdoor water use for residents in the Mount Pleasant and Tutela Heights area.

The ban went into effect Tuesday.

Flowers and vegetable gardens can be watered by hand but a hose shouldn’t be used for this or for watering lawns.

A combination of hot, dry weather and the use of water for irrigation has had the Mount Pleasant well pumps running non-stop for several days.

Still the reservoir is losing volume.

“Customers’ water use has exceeded the capacity of the Mount Pleasant system,” said Alex Davidson, Director of Environmental Services.

While the Tutela Heights area is located in the City of Brantford, it gets water from the Mount Pleasant water services.

The county says it will issue an announcement when the water ban has been cancelled.
