Cop Car is a suspenseful road movie co-written and directed by Jon Watts (Clown, Untitled Sony Spiderman Film). It premiered at Sundance this January and will be screening at the Vancouver International Film Festival, Calgary International Film Festival, and the Saskatoon Fantastic Film Festival in late September. The film stars Kevin Bacon, James Freedson-Jackson, Hays Wellford, Camryn Manheim, and Shea Whigham.

A pair of ten-year-olds find an abandoned cop car in a field. When they take it for a joyride, it seems like they could kill themselves at any moment. But things only get worse when the small town sheriff goes looking for his missing car. The kids find themselves in the center of a deadly game of cat and mouse they don’t understand and the only way out is to go as fast as their cop car can take them.

Following in the footsteps of up and coming indie directors Colin Trevorrow, Josh Trank, and James Gunn, Watts is making the leap from small genre films to mega franchises when he helms the upcoming Spider-Man reboot for Sony. It’s an experiment that could turn out great (see Trevorrow and Gunn) or crash and burn (Trank), but Sony and Marvel are convinced that Watts is the man they want directing Tom Holland’s Spider-Man debut in 2017.
