Cop braves the heat for pediatric cancer research in Niagara Falls

Sgt. Marc Garrels of the Niagara Regional Police set up shop atop a scissor lift and won’t come down until $20,000 has been raised for pediatric cancer research.

“I’m up here in my cage for 48 hours trying to raise money to help children’s research so we can find a cure for cancer.” Garrels says.

For the second year in a row, the Niagara regional police (NRP) officer opted to hold a “Caged for Cancer” event perched atop a scissor lift, this time on Victoria Avenue.

Garrels hopes to catch a sliver of the 14 million tourists that pass through Niagara falls every year.

Having the bare essentials with him, Garrels has his family and friends there to support.

Niagara Regional Police have raised $7,200 of their $20,000 goal.
