The Cootes Watershed is on its way to becoming a leading urban watershed in the country.

Clean up efforts by volunteers have taken volunteers over four years, approximately 8,000 hours and 300 thousand pounds of garbage to clean up the watershed and get it to where it is today.

Executive Director of the clean up initiative Alan Hansell said the next step in the project is to clean the lower Cootes Watershed the runs from the 403 to the Escarpment.

When that is complete Hansell said Cootes will officially be the largest urban watershed in the country.
