Continued Support for Humboldt

Fans were supposed to watch the Humboldt Broncos play hockey, but instead, they gathered for a vigil for the Saskatchewan team’s dead and injured.

One injured player has been released from hospital.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is among thousands of people attending a public vigil in Humboldt to mourn victims of the horrific bus crash Friday that took 15 lives, members of the Humboldt Broncos Junior Hockey Team.

There has been an outpouring of support for the entire Humboldt community.

A steady stream of people have been arriving at Elgar Petersen Sports Arena offering flowers along with letters of love and support to the grieving families.

Humboldt mayor, Rob Muench spoke with us by phone, he says they have been overwhelmed by the attention nationally and internationally.

The local church was filled with residents today, offering prayers and support for grieving families.

Emotions have been high among the community.

Investigators are still piecing together the details of what happened. the RCMP in Saskatchewan say given the large amount of evidence, information, and the number of victims, the investigation into the cause of the crash is going to take some time.

NHL teams across Canada have honoured the Humboldt Broncos, and Blue Jays players wrote “Broncos” on their caps yesterday, others sported the word across their backs.

The Winnipeg Jets and Chicago Blackhawks paid tribute to the Humboldt team by wearing jerseys with the word Broncos across their name plates. A moment of silence was observed, with players from both teams standing in a circle around centre ice.

Powerful scenes like this were held at most NHL games including the Canadians and Leafs game.

A GoFundMe page has surpassed four million dollars in donations.

Money will go directly to players and families affected to help with any expenses. Hockey teams including the Pittsburgh Penguins, Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks are among some of the highest contributors.
