Construction to resume on York Blvd. and Cannon St. in April

Two major arterial roads in west Hamilton will be impacted with lane reductions beginning in April, resulting in traffic delays and detours.

This is the second year of a two-year project to rehabilitate the area’s transportation infrastructure, by building new bike lanes, raised bus landings and accessible sidewalks.

The City of Hamilton says the construction will start on the first week of April, which will reduce York Boulevard – between Dundurn St. North and Caroline Street – and Cannon St. West – between Queen St. North and James St. North – to single lanes in each direction.

Construction is expected to be completed by Aug. 31.

It is expected the lane reductions will result in potential traffic delays and bike lane detours.

Dundurn St. North will be fully closed in July between York Boulevard and Jones Street.

Businesses in the area will remain open during construction.

Motorists and public transit customers should anticipate delays and allow for extra travel time, as some stops on HSR routes in the area will be affected.
