Construction begins in Brantford on Wayne Gretzky Parkway

Construction work starts in Brantford today on the Wayne Gretzky Parkway and Lynden Park Mall, which is expected to cause traffic disruptions.
The City of Brantford says phase one of the mall expansion project is expected to be completed by the end of October.
Work is being done on traffic signals, turn lanes, medians, sewer, road work, new lighting and a new way to get into the mall.
Motorists traveling from the Highway 403 interchange to the intersection of Edmondson St. and Wayne Gretzky Parkway are advised to prepare for potential delays during this period.

According to the city, the length of the project is due to the intricate nature of working alongside a busy main road with heavy traffic flow, in addition to the necessary infrastructure needed to support the expansion of the mall.
Motorists are asked to take alternate routes to minimize delays or avoid the area during peak traffic hours when possible.
The city says businesses will remain open during construction and pedestrian access at the Edmondson intersection will be maintained as will access for emergency services.
