McCoy has suffered severe burns to her face and body. Halton police describe her injuries as life-altering and her family says she is still in the hospital.

Police have not identified the victim, the family says it was McCoy who was walking in the area of Syer Drive and Maxted Crescent around 1:30 p.m. last Thursday when she was approached by another woman. Halton police allege that woman threw an “unknown chemical” at her, grabbed her phone, and ran off.

McCoy’s father, Dean McCoy, sent a message to CHCH News, saying she is currently on life support and is expected to have surgery tomorrow.

On a GoFundMe page set up for Bradi, she is described as bright, bubbly, and enthusiastic. It also says she is an educational assistant with the Halton District School Board (HDSB) and her dream is to become a teacher.

Family friend, Mary Camastra says the community is coming together to assist McCoy and her family during this difficult time.

“There’s going to be a fundraiser on April 14th, she will need care for a very very very long time and medical bills and leave of absence from work for the parents, we’re just trying to support and come together to make sure they can prioritize on Bradi,” Camastra said.

The fundraising event is going to be held at Rad Brothers Sports Bar and Tap House. The owners say they are expecting to see upwards of 200 people from the community, all coming out to support.

McCoy’s father says, “the support from our family, friends, and community has been amazing. (Bradi’s) road to recovery will be measured in years so having people around her for years to come is so important to my wife and I.”

Police say the suspect, a 57-year-old Quebec woman, was arrested in Montreal yesterday. They identified her as a family member of the victim but offered no further details.

The woman has been charged with aggravated assault, administering a noxious substance, and robbery. Police tell CHCH News she is in custody in Halton, pending a bail hearing.
