Cody Newnham Sentenced

A former Mohawk College student who pled guilty to manslaughter in the death of his roommate has learned his fate.   

21-year old Cody Newnham will spend the next two years behind bars.

The crown had requested a sentence of four to five years.

Newnham admitted that he flew into a rage over insulting e-mails and repeatedly punched his roommate — 23-year old Mitchell Black — in the head during a drunken fight in late February.
Black died in March, after suffering a brain injury.

Newnham’s sentence is 23 months and 6 days plus 2 years probation.
