Co~designer of Skydome dies
The man who was behind the design of Skydome died Wednesday in Toronto at the age of 83.
In the mid-80’s, Rod Robbie along with Michael Allen were chosen as head designers of Skydome, which has since been renamed the Rogers Centre.
The building famed for its revolutionary retractable roof stands as Robbie’s signature structure.
However, his daughter mentioned Wednesday, the strain of preparing Skydome almost killed him and sent his company “Robbie Architects Inc.” into bankruptcy.
It came to the point where, even today, it was hard for him to walk into the building because of the hard feelings stemming from the project being over budget.
