Coalition says more needed to prevent spread of Hepatitis
A health-care coalition is calling for safe injections sites from coast-to-coast in a effort to stop the spread of Hepatitis B and C.
The Canadian Coalition of Organizations Responding to Hepatitis B and C wants a more aggressive stance after issuing a report suggesting Canada’s performance is wanting.
The coalition says besides safe-injection sites, all regions of the country also need methadone clinics and needle exchanges.
It found resources are poor in P-E-I, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories and that prison inmates are especially vulnerable.
It also says resources are inconsistent across the country.
Hepatitis B and C are infectious diseases of the liver.
