Closing arguments in the Ghomeshi trial

Credibility was the key word today as both the crown and defence gave their closing arguments in the 8th day of the Jian Ghomeshi sexual assault trial.
For the first time in two weeks, Jian Ghomeshi shared the same courtroom as the three women accusing him of sexual assault at the same time. The women watched as Ghomeshi’s lawyers Marie Henein and Danielle Robataille argue that their client is not guilty and is entitled to an aquittal on all counts of sexual assault and one of overcoming resistance by choking.
Henein referenced how each woman left out vital information during their initial police and crown statements. She said that none of the women acknowledged that they continued to communicate and in one case engage in sexual acts with Ghomeshi after the alleged assault until there was a threat of exposure with evidence.
Henein closed by saying that the evidence, “is so riddled with inconsistencies and improbabilities and proven lies under oath that it cannot be said to prove anything”
Henein singled Lucy DeCoutere, saying that her accusation of overcoming resistance by choking didn’t stand because she testified that she never resisted and never lost consciousness.
The crown prosecutor defended the women’s actions by saying that ‘everyone deals with sexual assault differently.’
After hearing from both the crown and Jian Ghomeshi’s lawyers, Justice William Horkins said that he’ll have his judgement ready on March 24.
