Northbound lanes on Claremont access remain closed for urgent repairs

The northbound lanes of the Claremont Access will remain closed until Wednesday night for emergency repairs.
Last week, a contractor noticed an unsafe hanging piece of the wall while he was clearing foliage from the access.
The urgent repairs were scheduled to be done by Monday night but the City of Hamilton says the contractor identified additional work needed to be done.
A crane will be used on Wednesday to remove large rocks and steel to help strengthen the wall.
In 2012, part of the wall came tumbling down to the road, narrowly missing traffic.
One lane has been closed ever since and the bin wall was never replaced. It’s now the blank spot you see on the escarpment just uphill of the current problem.
City officials say tree roots often cause problems for the bin wall.
