City replaces $1 million in mishandled funds

The City of Hamilton says it’s successfully replaced $1 million in mishandled funds through an insurance claim.

The city says the claim to its insurer relates to the loss of one million in connection with a former employee.

The collections employee was fired amid allegations that he was stealing City payments from businesses including Farmers’ Market vendors over a period of 8 years.

The city says it’s still working with Hamilton Police on the matter.
