Child’s death prompts recall of 3-drawer chest in Canada, United States

The death of a two-year-old child in the United States has prompted a recall of a three-drawer chest in Canada.
South Shore Furniture is recalling more than 310,000 “Libra” style chests. The item has been sold at Walmart, Amazon, Target and other online retailers from October 2009 through July 2018.
According to the United States Consumers Product Safety Commission, the company has received two reports of “tip-over” incidents involving the recalled chests of drawers. One incident reported a fatality involving a two-year-old child and an unanchored, empty three-drawer chest. Another incident stated that a child received bruises on his leg and scratches.
There have been no reports of injuries in Canada. The affected product comes in nine different colours and was manufactured in Canada and Mexico.
Health Canada says some chests have been sold as part of a bedroom furniture set under model numbers 3070223, 3159223, and 3050223.
Consumers are being advised to stop using the chest and contact the company to receive a free repair kit to anchor the unit to the wall.
