Hamilton police are investigating after a five-year-old child was struck by a projectile on the mountain.

Police say a woman was driving her vehicle on Rymal Rd. East near Upper Red Hill Valley Parkway shortly before midnight on Monday.

The woman told police she heard the sounds of objects hitting the side of her car. At the same time, she heard laughter coming from a blue pickup truck that was driving by.

She then discovered something had struck her child under the eye. The child did not need medical attention but did suffer a welt.

Police say the woman’s vehicle sustained some damage from “multiple projectiles being fired at it.”

“The investigation has revealed that upwards of three people were inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting,” said Hamilton police in a news release. “The suspects and vehicle fled westbound on Rymal Rd. East.”
