A second young boy was dragged by a school bus right in front of his home. This is one of two incidents being investigated by school and transportation officials.

On Nov. 1, 5-year-old William Tappen was getting off his school bus right in front of his home in Brant County when he got stuck between the school bus doors and dragged.

The bus driver did eventually stop and William wasn’t hurt. The driver was suspended from work and the OPP charged the 64-year-old driver with careless driving.

In September, a similar incident happened with the same bus company, Voyago. Another young boy, Lucas, got stuck between the doors of a school bus and dragged right in front of his home in Norfolk County just about 20 mins away from the other incident.

Lucas’ mom, Ashley says, “my older daughter got off first. My son Lucas, who is six, exited last. The bus driver closed the door on his backpack. He was dragged about the length of a bus. It’s devastating.”

Ashley says Lucas wasn’t hurt in the incident, just a little shaken up but she knows it could have been a lot worse.

School Bus Ontario is a not-for-profit group that advocates for bus safety and has reached out to the Canadian Standards Association and is asking for an investigation.

School Bus Ontario says these two incidents are rare, but they say one time, is one too many, let alone twice so close together involving the same bus company. They are hoping new safety measures will be put in place after the investigation.
