Chicago born comedian and long-time Cubs fan Bob Newhart, tweeted “The billy goat is dead!! As I’ve said, from the beginning, I’m getting too old for this!”.
The curse of the billy goat was supposedly placed on the Cubs franchise in 1945 by the owner of the Billy Goat Tavern after he and his pet goat were asked to leave Wrigley Field because the goat’s odor was bother fans.
After the win, Cub’s manager Joe Maddon said he is glad the fans can move on. “I love tradition. I think tradition is worth time mentally and tradition is worth being upheld. But curses and superstitions are not. So it’s really great for our entire ‘Cub-dom’ to get beyond that moment,” said Maddon.
