It may have taken an extra inning, but that is nothing to the Chicago Cubs franchise that has waited 108 years to capture the title of World Series Champions.

Tens of thousands of Cubs fans filled the streets of Chicago to celebrate after the team’s historic win.

Ben Zobrist hit a go-ahead double in the 10th inning and Chicago held on to beat the Cleveland Indians. 8-7.

One Cubs fan posted a video showing her grandfathers reaction to the win, with the caption “my grandpa has been waiting 81 years for this.”

President Barack Obama sent out a tweet in the early morning hours after the win, inviting the Cubs to visit the White House before he leaves.

Chicago born comedian and long-time Cubs fan Bob Newhart, tweeted “The billy goat is dead!! As I’ve said, from the beginning, I’m getting too old for this!”.

The curse of the billy goat was supposedly placed on the Cubs franchise in 1945 by the owner of the Billy Goat Tavern after he and his pet goat were asked to leave Wrigley Field because the goat’s odor was bother fans.

After the win, Cub’s manager Joe Maddon said he is glad the fans can move on. “I love tradition. I think tradition is worth time mentally and tradition is worth being upheld. But curses and superstitions are not. So it’s really great for our entire ‘Cub-dom’ to get beyond that moment,” said Maddon.
