Cheese smuggling cop gets fine

A Niagara Regional Police officer who resigned in disgrace has been fined $15,000 for his part in a huge cheese smuggling ring.
49-year old Casey Langelaan pleaded guilty to smuggling thousands of dollars in U.S. cheese and chicken wings over the border. He sold the cheese at a $50,000 profit.
Canada Border Services wants a $50,000 penalty for unpaid taxes and duties.
Langelaan became a suspect, when Geoff Purdie, another NRP officer, was charged with steroid smuggling. Purdie offered up Langelaan to investigators.
Purdie is serving a year in a U.S. prison for smuggling half a million dollars worth of steroids over the border.
Constable Scott Heron is also charged with cheese smuggling. He will appear in court in December.
