43 women – including Morning Live’s Annette Hamm – are nominated for a Hamilton YWCA Woman of Distinction award this year.

They were all invited to a breakfast at the Hamilton Club today. It’s a historic club that once didn’t welcome women. This morning, it was a place to celebrate the female leaders in our community.

The award is one of the most prestigious to be given out every year, and it recognizes women who have broken new ground and are excellent role models.

Denise Doyle of the Hamilton YWCA: “We often know the stories of women are not told, and we also know that I believe strongly that you can’t be what you don’t see, and so we have all these amazing role models here today to share their stories and their experience and we’re so excited to be celebrating with each and every one of them.”

Hamm: “Being with this group of women today, it’s truly humbling because there are, I mean all the women in here I’m sure have great stories and the work that they do so it’s just very very nice, but there are so many women that don’t tell their stories.”

“Honestly, just being nominated and seeing the letters of support made me cry, and I’ll keep them forever.”

Other nominees in 11 separate categories include Olympian Laura Fortino, social activist Lenore Lukasik-Foss and long-time volunteer Pat Saunders. The winners will be announced at a gala on April 16th.
