The truck driver who drove his dump truck into the Burlington Skyway, forcing it to close for days, is facing more charges.

Sukhvinder Rai, 34, of Brampton is facing four more charges. It’s not clear what those charges are yet because they haven’t been laid. But CHCH News has been told they are more serious than the ones he’s already facing.

Rai was driving a dump truck with the bucket raised when it slammed into the bridge back on July 31st. The crash closed the Skyway for the civic long weekend.

Although Rai wasn’t in court today, his lawyer, Glen Henderson, was. “Ive been advised yesterday that he may be facing additional charges.”

“Unfortunately I have not been able to speak with the assigned Crown. As soon as I speak with her I will be able to say with more certainty what exactly is going to happened.”

Rai’s charged with impaired driving. He is not in custody, but his licence was suspended for 90 days.

He’s expected back in court on Wednesday to face the new charges. Provincial Police say the investigation is ongoing.
