Charges laid after man dies of drug overdose in St. Catharines

A Hamilton man has been charged in connection to a drug overdose death of a 26-year-old in St. Catharines.

Niagara police say officers were called to a business in the Welland Ave. and Geneva St. area on July 22 around 7:00 p.m. regarding a man who appeared to be experiencing an overdose outside.

The 26-year-old never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead in hospital on July 30.

Further investigations found the death was a direct result of the use of Fentanyl.

34-year-old Krzysztof Sojka of Hamilton was arrested yesterday.

Sojka faces manslaughter and drug trafficking charges. He is being held in custody in St. Catharines and is scheduled for a bail hearing today.
