A charge has been stayed against the mother of a 7-year-old girl who was made available for sex on a Craigslist ad.

The 39-year-old Hamilton woman was charged on September 21 with failure to provide necessaries of life to a child under 16.

Inside a Hamilton courtroom Thursday morning, the Crown said there was no reasonable possibility of conviction and the charge against the mother was stayed.

The woman’s boyfriend is facing 40 charges including making of child pornography and possession of child pornography after Hamilton police launched an investigation into the sexual assault of his girlfriend’s 7-year-old daughter.

On May 3, police received a tip from the Catholic Children’s Aid Society about a possible case of child abuse.

Detectives interviewed a seven-year-old girl who told police she had been sexual assaulted by her mother’s boyfriend. That evening, police arrested and charged the 34-year-old Hamilton man.

Police discovered the 7-year-old girl had been sexual assaulted by more than one person and was also made available to be assaulted by others through an ad placed on the american-based site, Craigslist.
