CFL talks with players break down

Labour talks between the CFL and the players association for a new collective bargaining agreement broke down earlier today after the league reviewed a new proposal from the players.
The CFLPA’s proposal is asking for a $5.8 million salary cap for this year, which is about $400,000 less than what they proposed last week. The league, which has offered a cap of $4.8 million this season, reviewed the proposal and walked out.
There are a couple of reasons a strike will not happen immediately when the old CBA expires at midnight tonight. In the province of Alberta, a strike vote can’t take place until a labour contract expires. And some of the players, upon reporting to camp on Saturday, will receive bonus money.
