The Ministry of Labour is investigating the death of a worker at a Hamilton warehouse. It happened at the Centura Floor and Wall on Nebo Road just past Stone Church Road East.

The area around Centura Floor and Wall has been quiet for the day even as the Ministry of Labour was investigating. They have just left as have all the employees. None of the employees would speak on camera today but a few that we spoke to off-camera said they were of course shaken. One saying that he was just surprised that this could happen so easily at a place where he works.

The 911 call came in just after 10 this morning. A large rack holding bags of cement and ceramic tile had collapsed and hit a man who was working inside Centrua Tiles at 140 Nebo Road.

Fire, police and EMS had arrived but it was too late. All that is knows about the victim right now is that he was a man that was working for an outside contractor. Many other workers were treated for dust inhalation by paramedics.

The Ministry of Labour had taken over the investigation and they have two investigators along with a structural engineer to try and figure out what went wrong.

For much of the day, police forensics were also here along with victim services for the employees who were inside at the time. by mid afternoon, some of the employees began trickling out of the building, obviously distraught.

There has been no reason given as to how this happened as we await the Ministry of Labour report. Centura Floor and Wall are a huge company, with locations all over Canada. They could not be reached for comment.
