Caught on camera: man arrested after crashing car downtown Hamilton

A 35-year-old Hamilton man has been arrested after driving through a red light at Sanford and King Street last night, crashing his car. The footage was all captured on surveillance video from a nearby hotel.

It happened just before 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The video shows cars stopped at a red light, but when the light turns green, a car plows through the intersection, hits another vehicle and then crashed into a Hamilton Bike Share station.
The video then shows the driver take of. The 35-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving and fail to remain. Sanford has been identified by the city as a road for re-design and a possible two way conversion with the addition of a bike lane, according to councillor Nrinder Nann.
Council will also be receiving a report on the short-term safety interventions for Main and King streets early next month. The city is already looking at making Main Street a two way road. King Street could follow.
