Carleton University launching new nursing program in 2025

The Ontario government has announced it will be launching a new university nursing program for the first time in 20 years.

The province says Carleton University will offer a direct entry three-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program starting Sept. 2025.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford said in a press release following the announcement that the program is part of the province’s ongoing efforts to maintain and expand Ontario’s nursing workforce.

“Today’s announcement is part of that ongoing work, which includes the largest medical school expansion in over a decade, so we can continue connecting more people in Ontario to convenient care close to home,” reads Ford in the statement.

The school says it will partner with Queensway Carleton Hospital for hands-on training starting from their first semester.

Ontario says the first class of up to 110 nursing students will be ready to practice as registered nurses as early as 2029.

The new program says it continue growing to enroll more than 200 new nurses each year by 2030.

Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones said in the release that the new program will provide more students opportunities to “launch their career in nursing to connect more families to care.”
