Car robbery suspect faces new charges after fatal St. Catharines crash

Niagara police have charged a St. Catharines man with new offences Monday after a fatal hit-and-run in St. Catharines in March that involved a stolen vehicle.
Officers say they are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stealing of a black Audi S5 and it’s subsequent crash.
Investigators say at around 9:40 p.m. March 19, a man had stolen the Audi from a commercial plaza near Scott Street.
The man had then gotten into a crash at Ontario Street and Welland Avenue at around 10:30 p.m., with a grey Chevrolet Malibu.
The 31-year-old man who drove the Malibu was taken to hospital but was declared dead.
The driver of the Audi had driven away from the crash site.
Two days later, 38-year-old Matthew Morris turned himself in to police, and was held in custody pending a bail hearing at a St. Catharines courthouse on March 22.
Morris was initially charged with robbery and failing to stop at the scene of a fatality offences.
Police charged Morris Monday with offences related to criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation causing death.
Morris is being held in custody pending an appearance a St. Catharines courthouse May 6.
