A Hamilton man is facing impaired driving charges after his car went over the escarpment around 2 a.m.

Police say a 24-year-old man was traveling eastbound on Mountain Brow Boulevard near Concession Street when he lost control.

The driver fled but was arrested nearby and taken to police headquarters for a breathalyzer test.  Speed is also believed to have been a factor in the crash.

A search of the area didn’t turn up anyone else.

The car was lodged amongst the trees down the embankment above the Sherman Access.  Part of the Kenilworth Access and Mountain Brow Boulevard were also kept closed as firefighters pulled it out.

Police said it was a tricky operation.

Roads are expected to re-open by 7 a.m.
